News posted on Oct 30th, 2009

On October 22, 2009, the Peoples’ Law Office was honored by the Chicago Chapter of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law for “leadership in attaining redress for civil rights victims and the deep impact it has made on justice and accountability.”

At a reception commemorating the 40th anniversary of the founding of the CCLCCR, this important civil rights organization honored the Peoples Law Office, which was also founded forty years ago. The award was conferred by longtime CCLCCR lawyer Steven Saltzman, and accepted by founding PLO member Flint Taylor, who, in his acceptance remarks, highlighted the important historical and current working relationship between the two legal organizations.  The keynote speaker was D.C.Circuit Court of Appeals Judge David Tatel, who was a founding member of the Chicago Lawyers Committee.  Judge Tatel recounted how the founding of the CCLCCR was linked to the Fred Hampton murder, and highlighted the importance of that event in Chicago’s legal and political history.
